Delran Township was originally part of Chester Township and then Cinnaminson Township. On February 12, 1880 Delran Township was formally established. The History of Delran was written by Lloyd Griscom and is posted here and on the Delran Township website.

In June 1960, Edward C. Downs wrote “An Historical Development of Delran Township, New Jersey, from 1880 to 1960″. A Thesis Presented to the Faculty of the Graduate School, Glassboro State College (now Rowan University).
